Prudential Financial, one of the largest insurance companies in the US, reported that it had fallen victim to a ransomware attack that impacted 2.5 million people. The initial notification stated that only 36,000 people had their data stolen, but this number was revised after further investigation. The stolen data includes full names, driving license numbers, and non-driving license identification cards.
The company will provide affected customers with 24 months of identity theft and credit monitoring services through Kroll. In general, individuals who have fallen victim to a data breach can take steps to protect themselves, including:
* Checking the vendor’s advice
* Changing passwords and enabling two-factor authentication (2FA)
* Being cautious of fake vendors and phishing attacks
* Taking time to verify the identity of anyone contacting you
* Not storing card details on websites
* Setting up identity monitoring
